A 7 year old boy was killed late Monday Aug 12 in a multi vehicle crash on northbound Rt. 1. Just before 10 pm Townsend Fire Company was dispatched to an accident on Rt. 1 northbound, firefighters arrived to find several vehicles involved. The 7 year old was immediately extricated and transported to Christiana Hospital by B-26 and was pronounced dead on arrival at christiana.6 other people were transported to Christiana with non-life threatening injuries and a 12 year old was transported to AI DuPont with non-life threatening injuries, overall 6 vehicles were involved in the crash with 8 total patients. Townsend was assisted by Leipsic, American Legion, Port Penn, Middletown and Odessa ambulances. Preliminary investigations and witness reports said the truck failed to slow down for construction and struck the rear of a vehicle, forcing it to loose control and create a chain reaction. Currently no charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation.
